Third feature from Ibizan filmmaker Adrian Cardona. ‘La raíz del mal’ was filmed during the summer of 2008 in Ibiza. As the film received a grant from the government of Castilla-La Mancha, it also includes some images filmed in Toledo.
In ‘La raíz del mal, Cardona pays tribute to the influential gore film by American director Sam Raimi, ‘The Evil Dead ‘(1981). With the usual cast in Cardona films, Ibizan actor Juanjo Torres also took part in the project. An excellent performer who has appeared in several short films shot in Ibiza, such as ‘Ses banyes de sa bèstia'(2007),’El último peldaño útil’ (2008) and ‘El hijo del taxidermista’ (2013). He also took on a small role in the film by Igor Fioravanti, ‘El sueño de Ibiza’ (2001).
‘La raíz del mal’ was screened in 2008 in the famous Sitges Film Festival, focused on the fantasy and terror genre, in the “Midnight X-Treme” section, where these kind of proposals (with virtually no means) were displayed. Last year Cardona had participated in the same competition with his work ‘Brico Killer’ (2007), achieving the award for best short film in the “Brigadoon” section.
